Day Care

What the logo means?

Designed by Senior Man Uncle George Walker

The dreaming behind the design:
“The circle represents our thinking on life, belonging and art.

The circle edge is a broad, strong black line representing our Koori culture. Inside the circle are colours representing the Land and the blue represent the colour of Air and Water on which support life.

The small black dots inside the circle represent the Children. Outside the circle and around the edge dots increase as a child grows and represents the thinking, influence and connection the M.A.C.S Centre has on our Koori culture and belonging.”

Philosophy

Gudjahgahmiamia Multifunctional Aboriginal Children’s Service was created to provide quality, culturally safe, affordable education and care for children from the Wreck Bay Community and all Aboriginal Families in the surrounding communities.
Gudjahgahmiamia M.A.C.S. is managed by the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Council. The centre is licensed by the ACT Department of Community Services and follows the ACT Childcare Services Standards. WBACC actively supports the employment and ongoing training of Community members.

The staff of Gudjahgahmiamia have a strong commitment to the care and education of young children. Children call staff Aunty or Uncle as a sign of respect and to reflect the traditions of the Wreck Bay Community.

At Gudjahgahmiamia, we value the past, present and emerging Elders Cultural knowledge, wisdom and practices of the Wreck Bay Community and the wider Australian Aboriginal Community.

We build relationships with the WBACC Caring for Country team, the WBACC Community Liaison Officer, the WBACC Cultural Heritage Officers, Families, and Staff to promote and foster Aboriginal culture within the centre.
We believe that developing positive, secure, and respectful relationships with children is key in the development of the child’s learning.

We acknowledge and value families as their child’s first teachers. As a MACS we support families to access resources and services to support their children’s healthy development.

We believe in providing a friendly, clean, safe, engaging and home-like atmosphere. to support the children’s sense of belonging. The educational program reflects the interests and needs of each child, the local community, natural environment, the children’s families, Cultural events & celebrations.

We acknowledge, recognise and value our educator’s knowledge, wisdom, Culture, Cultural practices, and experiences in the day-to-day program.

Gudjahgahmiamia is a proud member SNAICC. WBACC is proud to support SNAICC’s work to improve outcomes and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and strengthen the capacities of families across Australia.
